Phase 2: Enviroimmunity Scan
Advanced Indoor Air Quality & Moisture Diagnostic
Our Phase 2 Enviroimmunity Scan is customizable and is performed, in whole or in part, after a Phase 1 screening test has been performed and results indicate elevations of the following or one of the following: PM10 or PM2.5, CO², HVAC contaminates, moisture, HERTSMI-2 score (if performed), or visible mold. Our Phase 2 Enviroimmunity Scan is comprised of the following detailed analysis-
1. Indoor Air Quality and Chemical Diagnostics
Why It Matters: In 2015, the World Health Assembly adopted a landmark resolution on air quality and health, recognizing air pollution as a risk factor for noncommunicable diseases such as ischaemic (ischemic) heart disease, stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma and cancer, and the economic toll they take. High VOC exposure impairs mucociliary clearance (the respiratory tract's cleaning mechanism) and triggers severe mucosal inflammation. This creates an open doorway for life-threatening opportunistic fungal or bacterial infections.
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
· TO-15: Best for detailed laboratory analysis. It captures ambient air in a canister to identify and precisely measure specific compounds (like carcinogenic benzene).
- PID (Photoionization Detector): Best for real-time tracking. This handheld tool provides instant readings of total organic vapor levels to spot immediate chemical spikes.

Aldehydes (DNPH)-Formaldehyde / Acetaldehyde
- Highly specialized chemical tubes through which air is pulled. The aldehydes react chemically with the DNPH, allowing a laboratory to accurately isolate and quantify them even at very low exposure limits.
Ozone (O₃) & Nitrogen Dioxide (NO₂)
- Portable handheld gas detector: Designed for ozone to accurately track safe indoor thresholds. When gas molecules land on the sensor surface, they generate a tiny electrical current proportional to the gas concentration. Quantum Environmental uses specialized detection units that can accurately track and differentiate O₃ and NO₂ safe indoor thresholds.
Combustion Gases
- Electronic Gas Analyzers: Handheld multi-gas detectors utilize electrochemical sensors to measure gas concentrations in parts per million (ppm).
2. Microbiological Diagnostics (Expanded)
Why It Matters: In an immunocompromised host, standard environmental microbes turn into opportunistic pathogens. Common indoor molds like Aspergillus or Mucorales can be inhaled and lead to invasive fungal diseases (such as pulmonary aspergillosis), which carry exceptionally high mortality rates. Identifying these invisible threats early allows for immediate remediation before exposure occurs
- HERTSMI-2 (Dust DNA – optional): May be used when dust-borne legacy contamination is suspected based on Phase 1 findings (Moisture, ecology mismatch, HVAC contamination, or symptom driven triggers).
- Viable Andersen: Species-specific active air sampling method used to collect and enumerate live (viable) microorganisms, such as bacteria and fungi, from the air. Unlike non-viable spore traps, this process relies on the
principle of inertial impaction to physically trap living pathogens directly onto agar media plates. These plates are then incubated in a laboratory so the captured microbes can grow into visible colonies (Colony Forming Units, or CFUs) for exact counting and taxonomic identification.

- ERMI/MSQPCR: May be used when dust-borne legacy contamination is suspected based on Phase 1 findings (Moisture, ecology mismatch, HVAC contamination, or symptom driven triggers). The ERMI panel collects settled dust which acts as a historical reservoir of settled particles over time. It tests for 36 specific mold species, dividing them into two critical categories: Because it
- Group 1 (26 Species): Fungi strictly associated with water-damaged buildings. This includes highly opportunistic pathogens like Aspergillus fumigatus and Aspergillus flavus.

3. Mycotoxin Dust Testing (LC-MS/MS)
Why It Matters: Indoor mycotoxins like Aflatoxins, Ochratoxin A, and Trichothecenes (from black mold) are profoundly cytotoxic. When inhaled or absorbed, they cause secondary immunosuppression, further weakening the patient's remaining white blood cells. Eliminating these specific chemical stressors allows the patient’s immune system to focus entirely on recovery, rather than fighting off chronic environmental poisoning.
· Mycotoxin Dust Testing: Because mycotoxins are heavy molecules that cling to surfaces, you must target areas where fine dust has accumulated undisturbed over a period of weeks or months. Collect dust from two or three distinct areas of the home. The most accurate sources are the HVAC/AC filter, which provides the most comprehensive baseline of the home's circulating air.
Additionally, the dusty inner grates or vents of your heating and cooling system and high bookshelves, the top of door frames, or areas behind large appliances.

4. Heavy Metals Screening
Why It Matters: Heavy metal home screening is a critical preventative measure for immunocompromised individuals because toxic metals like lead, mercury, cadmium, and arsenic directly sabotage what remains of their immune defenses. While healthy individuals can typically tolerate or slowly detoxify low-level environmental exposures, patients with compromised health suffer from amplified immunotoxicity. Heavy metals like lead and cadmium act as direct immunotoxins that damage both the innate and adaptive immune systems.
· Dust wipe for heavy metals: EnviroImmunity Scan Phase 2 performs heavy metal dust wipe sampling inside a home, following strict, standardized scientific protocols like the ASTM E1728 standard practice. This ensures that the samples are completely untainted by external contamination and provide exact, reliable quantities of toxic metal concentrations to safely protect an immuno-compromised individual.

Use Heavy Metal Dust Wipe Testing When: Pre-1981 homes near
freeways, Industrial adjacency, or wildfire & ash history.
5. Final Interpretation-Findings
Why it Matters: Quantum Environmental’s Enviroimmunity scan delivers peace of mind to you and your family by providing scientific data that your home is safe or the precise instructions for contractors to return your home into the safe environment your family deserves.
Ultimate Peace of Mind Even When Contaminants are Discovered by Outlining Specific Recommendations and Professional Protocols:
- Identifies the source: Reveals what the exposure pathway is and what must corrective measures need to be implemented.
- Containment protocols: Prevents cleanup errors that accidentally spread contaminates throughout the house ensures highly sensitive, immunocompromised residents are not exposed during cleanup.
- Specific action plans: Gives precise instructions for contractors, preventing unnecessary and expensive repairs.
Verification testing: Confirms the home is truly safe after cleaning is finished.
